Sustainable And Innovative
At Durkan, sustainability drives everything we do. We’re leading the way in creating environmentally friendly homes without sacrificing comfort.
Commitment To Sustainable Building
At Durkan, we believe that the future of home building is in innovation and sustainability. We look beyond national building standards to find solutions that offer even more for our homeowners and the environment – more comfort, incredible energy savings, better build quality and less emissions. We are committed to continually raising sustainability standards in Irish construction, finding new and exciting ideas to create a better future for our people and our planet.
Insulated Formwork Concrete (ICF)
Durkan has led the way in championing the innovated Insulated Formwork Concrete (ICF) building method. ICF is a versatile and energy-efficient construction system that has many benefits over traditional construction methods. The method uses two spaced panels of expanded polystyrene (EPS) rigid insulation blocks, with poured concrete into the cavity. ICF construction is faster, quieter, and more environmentally friendly than traditional construction methods, and it provides superior thermal performance and acoustic insulation.
Passive House
Many Durkan developments strive to achieve the principles and energy standards of the Passive House movement. This tried and tested construction concept suggests a very thorough and precise detailed design of a building with an energy demand 90% lower than most buildings. Comfort is assured in several ways including highly insulated glass that avoids temperature stratification or ‘cold pockets’ next to windows, complete elimination of drafts through proper air-sealing, absence of thermal bridges, tempered fresh air, improved sound insulation, comfortable humidity levels (around 50%) and high indoor air quality as exemplified by CO2 levels.
